Todd St/Ledaig St
Councillor Patricia Chalmers formally opened the newbuild development at 206 Todd Street / 1 Ledaig Street on Thursday 9th September 2004.
It was followed with the presentation of the Secure by Design accreditation by chief inspector John Hunter from Strathclyde Police in recognition of the Association working in partnership with the local police office to maximise security within this project.
This project contains 48 units for rent with a mixture of cottage flats, semi-detached houses and bungalows. Six of the units are wheelchair adapted. The project commenced in June 2003 and was completed in September 2004 in line with the contract completion date. Funding was provided by Communities Scotland (now GCC) and a private loan from Britannia Building Society.
The Todd / Ledaig Street development is the first newbuild within the Haghill area since the original estate was built. The Association is currently working on proposals for phase 2 development and is hopeful that this will encourage private companies to build accommodation for sale within the area, thus working towards ultimate regeneration of the Haghill.
In addition to this project, the Association has recently completed a further 3 close contract at Aitken Street and it is anticipated that phase 3 will commence during this financial year.
A major demolition programme, which commenced 4 years ago is almost complete. The remainder of the housing stock within this area is managed by Milnbank LHO and it is the Association's intention to enter into 2nd Stage transfer talks with GHA within the near future.
Haghill Primary School has now been vacated and will be converted into housing. This has been replaced by a new "State of the Art" primary school located in Alexandra Park.
