Our History

The 1974 Housing Act led to the dramatic growth of Housing Associations in Scotland. Housing Associations were seen as a chance to provide some flexibility, diversity and variety for people who were unable to obtain council housing or buy their own property. Housing Associations were characterised by a high degree of local control, with a strong emphasis on rehabilitation works and special needs.
