In terms of the Housing (Scotland) Act 2001, Milnbank Housing Association must maintain a register of tenants organisations, these groups will be known as Registered Tenant Organisations (RTO’s) and must meet certain criteria stipulated within the Act. The criteria for a RTO are to have a publicly available written constitution that sets out items like:-
The Association currently has 1 Registered Tenant Organisation at the Great Eastern Development which was established in June 2010.
APPLYING TO BE A RTO
When applying to be a RTO the organisation must submit to Milnbank Housing Association notification that it wishes to register. The Act also requires a written constitution, names and addresses of committee members, map and description of the area of operation, statement of how the organisation plans to engage with members and how it will represent their views must be supplied.
